There is no single "best" time to propose in Prague — only the time that fits the mood you want and the weather you'll accept. Here's how the year breaks down, from a photographer's point of view.
Spring (April–May): blossom and balance
Our favourite season. Petřín Hill and the orchards fill with blossom, the gardens reopen, days are long enough for a comfortable sunrise, and the summer crowds haven't arrived. Weather is variable, so keep a backup plan — but the light and greenery are hard to beat.
Summer (June–August): long days, big crowds
Warm, reliable weather and very long days — sunrise as early as 5am means genuinely empty landmarks if you're willing to wake up. The trade-off is heavy tourist crowds from mid-morning, so early starts and hidden gardens matter more than ever.
Autumn (September–October): golden and calm
Arguably the most photogenic season. Golden foliage in Letná and the parks, softer light, thinning crowds and comfortable temperatures. Vineyard spots like Grébovka peak during the September harvest. A superb time to propose.
Winter (November–February): moody and magical
Cold and short on daylight, but deeply atmospheric — misty mornings on Charles Bridge, snow on the castle, Christmas markets glowing on Old Town Square. Fewer tourists and a romantic, cinematic mood. Dress warmly and plan around the short days.
A note on time of day
Whatever the season, the hour matters more than the month. Sunrise gives you the emptiest landmarks and the softest light; the golden hour before sunset is warmer but busier. We plan every session around the exact sun times for your date.
