A Little History
The story first.
Founded around 1241 and still, remarkably, home to the Sternberg family that built it — one unbroken line across nearly eight hundred years. The castle grips a rock spur directly above the Sázava, its walls following the cliff so closely that river, rock and fortress read as one thing.

The drama here is the setting: from the river bridge the castle towers overhead like a ship's prow, and from the castle terraces the Sázava valley winds off green and slow. There's a lived-in warmth unusual for Czech castles — this is somebody's ancestral home, not a museum — and the village below is tiny and calm.
