Princess Eleonora Schwarzenberg saw Windsor on her travels and rebuilt Hluboká in its image in the 1840s — 140 rooms behind crenellated white walls, with winter garden, riding hall and an English park rolling to the Vltava. Czechs routinely vote it their most beautiful castle.
Hluboká is bridal by design: white towers over clipped parterres, wisteria on the terraces, deer grazing the park at dawn. Every angle is composed — the Schwarzenbergs built it to enchant, and two centuries later it still performs.

The fairy-tale option in the south: the question on the parterre terraces or under the park's great oaks, then České Budějovice or Český Krumlov (30 minutes) for dinner — this pairs perfectly with our Krumlov chapter. Gardens are free and open till dusk; mornings beat the tour buses.
