Count Sporck built Kuks around 1700 as a baroque spa-utopia: a hospital, a church and a grand terrace where Matthias Braun carved his famous allegories of the Virtues and Vices — Love among them. The spa washed away in a flood; the sculpture gallery and the great staircase remain, restored and glorious.
The terrace is pure theatre: a sweep of baroque stairs down to the Elbe, statues watching in two rows, vineyard on the slope and meadows beyond. Braun's "Love" (Láska) stands right there in stone — propose in front of her and the symbolism is carved, literally, in sandstone.

An connoisseur's choice — art, history and hardly any tourists. The staircase and terrace are open freely; golden hour lights the façade straight on. Combine with the nearby Braun's Bethlehem forest sculptures for a full baroque-romantic day.
