Medieval Europe's silver rush built Kutná Hora: in the 14th century its mines financed the Bohemian crown, and the miners raised St Barbara's Cathedral — a late-gothic masterpiece with a roof like three tents pitched against the sky. The whole historic centre is UNESCO-listed, essentially unchanged since the silver ran out and time stopped politely.
The terrace walk from the Jesuit College to St Barbara's is one of the loveliest promenades in the country — baroque statues on one side, vineyards falling to the Vrchlice valley on the other, the cathedral growing larger with every step. Evening empties the town almost completely; you get golden stone, long shadows and church bells to yourselves.

For couples who love Prague's architecture but want the moment private. The balustrade on the Barborská terrace is the natural stage — cathedral behind, valley below — and an hour's drive makes it a relaxed half-day with time for a cellar lunch. Most visitors come for the ossuary and leave by five; propose at golden hour and the town is yours.
