7 Proposal Mistakes to Avoid in Prague

By Kemal Onur Özman — Prague proposal photographer, 500+ proposals since 2014 · Updated August 2026

After 500+ proposals, we've seen everything succeed — and a few near-misses teach more than a hundred perfect mornings. These are the seven mistakes we see most often, in rough order of how badly they can sting.

1. Proposing at Charles Bridge at noon

The most iconic spot in Prague is also its busiest — by midday you'll share the moment with several hundred strangers and a selfie stick in every frame. The bridge is magical at sunrise; the same spot six hours later is a queue. Whatever your location, the hour matters more than the landmark — see our timing guide.

2. Writing a speech and memorising it

Adrenaline deletes scripts. Couples who memorise paragraphs freeze; couples who hold three bullet points in their head speak from the heart. Structure beats script — one memory, one truth, the question. Our speech guide has the formula.

3. Putting the ring in checked luggage

Lost-luggage stories and proposals don't mix. The ring flies in your hand luggage, stays on your body during the trip, and lives in a slim case — never the big branded box that prints its shape through every jacket pocket.

4. Telling too many people

Every person who knows is a possible leak — a toast that starts too early, a "so, anything new?" with a grin. Tell only the people who have a job to do. If friends or family are joining the surprise, brief them once and set one rule: nobody posts anything first.

5. Having no weather plan

Hoping for sun is not a plan. Every proposal needs an agreed plan B — a colonnade, an arcade, a grand café — so a shower means a calm switch, not a panic. We build one into every booking; see the rain guide.

6. Handing your phone to a stranger

The classic budget plan: ask a passing tourist to film it. The results are genuinely heartbreaking — shaky vertical video, thumbs, the moment missed entirely. If photos matter to you at all, this is the one corner not to cut. (Yes, we're biased. We're also right.)

7. Rushing off before the portraits

The 20 minutes right after the yes — glowing, laughing, rings on — produce the photos couples treasure most. Don't sprint to brunch; let the moment breathe, walk the location, then celebrate. The reservation can wait a quarter hour.
