Engagement Photos at Bouzov Castle

By Kemal Onur Özman — Prague proposal photographer, 500+ proposals since 2014 · Updated August 2026

If you have ever watched a Czech fairy tale, you have seen Bouzov. The Teutonic Knights rebuilt this medieval castle around 1900 in high romantic style — battlements, turrets, a drawbridge, a courtyard well — producing something more castle-like than any real castle has any right to be. It has been a film location ever since.

1. The drawbridge and gate

The classic approach: stone bridge, portcullis arch, towers overhead. The single most storybook frame in Moravia.

2. The forest approach road

Beech woods with the towers appearing between trunks — the moment of arrival, and beautiful in autumn.

3. The village viewpoint

The full castle profile rising from the trees, with space for a wide, cinematic composition.

4. The courtyard

Arcades, a carved well and stone walls in every direction — sheltered, atmospheric and cool on hot days.

Quiet green space where the crowds thin out and a proposal can happen unobserved.

Planning around opening times

The castle interior and courtyard are tour-based and seasonal; the exterior, bridge, forest road and viewpoints are freely accessible year-round. We usually build a session outside the walls, where you have both privacy and the best angles, and add the courtyard if your dates and the schedule align.

Combining it into a day

Bouzov sits between Olomouc and the Jeseníky mountains. Olomouc — Moravia's baroque capital — is 40 minutes away and makes the natural dinner stop after a castle afternoon.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Bouzov Castle?

In central Moravia, about 40 minutes from Olomouc and three hours from Prague. It works best as part of a Moravian trip rather than a Prague day trip.

Can you take engagement photos inside the castle?

The interiors are tour-only with their own photography rules, and organised shoots need prior arrangement. The bridge, gates, forest road and viewpoints are public and free — and honestly they give the best photos anyway.

Which films were shot at Bouzov?

It is one of the most-used fairy-tale locations in Czech cinema and has also appeared in international productions. That romantic-revival silhouette is exactly why directors keep coming back.

When is the castle least crowded?

Weekday mornings in spring and autumn. Summer weekends bring families and tour groups to the courtyard, though the forest road and viewpoints stay quiet all year.
