Písek has what Prague has, thirty years earlier and with nobody on it: a gothic stone bridge over a wide, clear river, built in the 1260s — the oldest surviving bridge in the country. The town grew rich on gold panned from the Otava, and the river is still the reason to come.

The river town rhythm
Písek is built around water, and the best sessions follow it: bridge, bank, weir, meadow. In summer the shallows are warm enough to stand in, which produces some of the most joyful photos we take anywhere — nobody stays composed with their feet in a river.
History without the crowds
The bridge predates Charles Bridge by roughly a century, and the comparison is fair: same gothic engineering, same baroque saints, a fraction of the fame. If your dream photo is "us on an ancient bridge, alone", this is where it exists.
