Ještěd is the strangest and most beloved building in the country: a 1973 hyperboloid television tower and hotel that continues the mountain's silhouette into the sky. Architect Karel Hubáček won international honours for it, and Czechs voted it their building of the century.
You take a cable car to a summit where a retro-futurist rocket ship stands in the wind, and the world drops away on every side — on clear evenings the sunset burns above a sea of clouds with the Giant Mountains floating on the horizon. Then you walk inside for dinner in a dining room that looks like a Kubrick set.

The most unusual proposal on this list: summit rocks for the question at sunset, the tower as your witness, dinner (or even an overnight in the hotel) as the celebration. Winter brings snow and cloud-sea drama; check the webcam for visibility before committing to the day.
