Proposal in Prague in May

May is when Czechs celebrate love: on 1 May couples kiss under blossoming trees at the Mácha statue on Petřín — the local Valentine's. The gardens hit full lushness, evenings stretch past 20:30, and the summer crush hasn't landed yet. For many couples this is the sweet spot of the whole year.

1. Petřín & the Mácha statue

Petřín Hill

The home of the Czech day of love — propose where the whole city comes to kiss on 1 May.

2. Vrtba Garden in rose season

Malá Strana

The baroque terraces at their most abundant — May and June are the garden's glory weeks.

3. Střelecký Island

The river

Under the plane trees mid-river, with bridge views both ways — a soft, green, local spot for a warm evening.

The first of May

Proposing on 1 May at Petřín is proposing inside a living Czech tradition — romantic, meaningful, and yes, other couples will be there for the same reason. For privacy with the same symbolism, go at sunrise, or pick another day and another blossoming tree.

Light and gardens

Sunrise around 5:20, sunset around 20:40 mid-month. The terraced gardens — Vrtba above all — are in their richest weeks, with roses arriving toward the end of the month. Warm evenings make the boat season properly begin.

Crowds

Building, but manageable: weekday mornings are still calm everywhere. From late May, treat Charles Bridge and Old Town Square as sunrise-only territory.
