Prague's sunset is a west-of-the-river affair: the sun drops behind the castle side, sets the rooftops burning, and turns the Vltava to brass. These are the seven places we take couples when the brief says "sunset" — each linked to our full location notes.
1. Letná Park
Above the river bends
The skyline balcony — every bridge stacked in one view, plane trees glowing, and enough space that your moment stays yours. Our default answer to "where should we watch the sunset?"
2. Riegrovy Sady
Vinohrady
The locals' sunset lawn: the hill faces the castle dead-on, and on a good evening half of Vinohrady sits here with wine as the sky performs. Joyful, not touristy.
3. Petřín Hill
Above Malá Strana
Orchards and rose gardens in the last warm light, with the lookout tower crowning the hill. In blossom season, a sunset proposal here is almost unfair.
4. Strahov Monastery Terrace
Above the castle
One of the highest vantage points in the centre — the castle sits below eye level while the whole city catches fire behind it.
5. Náplavka Riverbank
New Town riverside
Sunset at water level: the bridge arches silhouetted, swans in the brass-coloured river, café barges humming. Low-key and deeply romantic.
6. Legion Bridge
Between the theatres and Kampa
The clean postcard of castle + river without Charles Bridge's crowds — the sun sets almost exactly behind the castle from here in shoulder seasons.
7. Vyšehrad Ramparts
The southern fortress
Quiet walls high above a bend in the river, facing west — the most private of Prague's great sunset panoramas.
