A Little History
The story first.
Mikulov presides over the Moravian wine country from between two hills: the Dietrichstein château on one, the pilgrimage chapel of the Holy Hill (Svatý kopeček) on the other, with the white limestone Pálava ridge behind — vines have grown here since Roman legions camped below.
Why It's Romantic

The evening walk up Holy Hill — limestone, wild thyme, chapels of the way — ends at a white church with the town, the château and an ocean of vineyards below in sunset light. Then you descend to candle-lit wine cellars for the toast. South Moravia is Czech romance at its warmest.
